Sometimes encouraging Girls in STEM can be difficult, but most days it’s great fun for us at Gangly Sister.
Running a virtual company can get lonely, so every now and again our fearless leaders, myself and Ofer, get together for a little fun. If you’ve watched our pilot episode, you know that Purple and Nine may be the first girls in history to print a ferret on a 3D printer. What you may not know is that we printed a ferret on a 3D printer as well.
This week, Ofer got to see the ferret so generously printed by >a href=”http://www.makerbot.com/” title=Makerbot” target=”_blank”>Makerbot.
“This is the first time I got to see a physical representation of something I created in 3D animation,” said Ofer. There’s a special joy in seeing your creation come to life in the physical world. I enjoyed watching him check out every detail and talked about how the stripes weren’t part of the 3D model but they looked cool anyway.
We spent the day creating comics for girls. Although Ofer is a 3D artist, he creates most of the sketches of the pages for the comic book before they go to our comic book artist. Here’s a sneak peek. We’ll be showing you more in the coming weeks.
Every couple of weeks, Ofer and I go to the local food court where we can connect up a bunch of tables and get our work done. There’s no WiFi, so we don’t get distracted. We just read the awesome scripts that Dale has written and sketch out the storyboards. At the espresso bar, the give you a tiny chocolate with your coffee. Ofer doesn’t eat chocolate. Just one more thing I love about him.
After about 3 hours, I get burned out, so we never schedule for more than that. This week we did more than 10 pages in 3 hours!! Look at that!
So, as you can see, the Gangly Sister team is busy making Purple and Nine. We hope to encourage more girls to join STEM fields. What about you? How much fun are you having at work these days? Want to join us? We are always looking, so check out our careers page
